hi graham,

I followed your links and was very interested by stephen's comments and the reaction to them. I think it was good how you reflected on his follow up post and modified your attitude.

I wouldn't know whether what stephen says is correct in this particular case but he raises some very important issues about the future of the educational blogging enterprise (web2.0-ism, if I may coin a phrase).

"Blame not the speaker but be warned by his words"

Nice post G, many thanks. I certainly was very nervous. But it faded as I started getting into it more. I'm pretty sure that my work won't actually instigate change, but reckon it does push ou the boundaries, and therefore gives others more room to move - and it is there that the change can happen hey.

You know about the TALO SwapMeet in Adelaide next March?

What needs to 'die' is traditional 'sit around a round table and listen to the front' conference behaviour. It unwittingly takes us back to older, more passive behaviour patterns. This was the irony of last week's NSW Learnscope Conference.

The two mornings had a fresh, informal energy about them as we raced from one 10-minute session to another. Then we listened politely when George Siemens or Nancy White spoke. George brought two good days to an end on a high...then we had to all go home! Why at least wasn't the BAR open?? Listen and learn, but we can't fund celebrating it!

Graham,

I certainly don't think that conferences and teaching are dead, although I do understand why you (and I, and others) are questioning their value. After these recent questions, I still say "yes" to conferences, both online and physical, and I still support the K12 Online model. I'm looking forward to your presentation.
