Wow Graham, an awesome post, and yes sounds like it was a great day.

I created an Alternative Education Program in a Special School for high school students here in Darwin. We have had some amazing results, with our main focus to re-engage them being relationships, the modeling and practice of good ones.

Most of our students have a trigger for destructive behaviour when anything remotely 'traditional' is put before them. Over the last 18 months they have come a long way. one student who never attended school is now at school 2 days a week and working (paid) 3 days a week!

I would be interested to learn more about Project Based Learning, and how it can be applied for students with mild intellectual disability.

How do we change the system, I believe the critical mass has already begun.

Sounds like a good day Graham, thanks for sharing those notes and impressions. I like Graham Speight's idea that staff need to become accustomed to constant change and the dangers (impossibility?) of five year plans.
