Hi Sally-Anne,
Now I do feel like a jerk - because out the front of every presentation I don't connect with is a real human being who's been prepared to put themselves on the line. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, and I wouldn't take my opinion too seriously. My wife will tell you that for free!

Maybe a better use of our time would be some sort of professional conversation where practitioners like you and I can get together, discuss what we do, ask questions, poke holes in each others' ideas, give thumbs ups to the good stuff and come away from the experience a richer person. Maybe my review reveals more about my own biases and frustrations with where cutting edge IWB practice is supposed to be and the format that conferences force us into, than anything you proposed during your session.

I do think that criticism an be a useful tool - but maybe in this case, my feedback doesn't really help. For what it's worth.

You know what Graham, I agree with you totally. (Unfortunetly a good friend of mine tragically passed away a week before my presentation. However this is no excuse!!!!!)

I left the conference feeling disheartened and totally confused by the type of people I was presenting to. My first session the day before was full of people who had never turned on a whiteboard.

I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy my session and I will reflect on your comments. Even before reading them I had decided not to present at this type of conference again.

Sounds like you echo my feelings at most conferences.

There's definitely a need for critical evaluation and recognizing the difference between tips/tricks and deeper practice. It isn't done very often at conferences.

The vendor stuff really gets to me. Never could bring myself to do the stamp collecting. Seems such a waste of time and IMO fairly degrading.

I have not had any luck either with conferences that are live. It is amazing how spoiled I get hanging out with my PLN and having access to unlimited content that fits my needs. While I love to present very few opportunities are out there for people to be exposed to my interests.

The joy of being literate on the computer is to be exposed to a world of keynotes and other presentations put up by quality educators.

If I ever have a chance to go to a conference that comes close to what I am able to see online that will be a blog post to remember.

Ahhh Graham....I went a couple of years ago and had the same impression as you. I thought it may have been that I have been in IT for a long time and I don't get conned by vendors (as I want to know about the learning) and IWB have forced some previous "IT-unskilled" teachers into a new world.
I had a deep and meaningful discussion with an IWB guru last year and his advise to me was don't get hung up on the "Interactive" part....as that is what I was not seeing at conference presentations....
Perhaps a confernece setting is not what IWB should be - but open classrooms with students using the IWBs
Hope these ramblings make sense.... as I think 9 holes of golf are calling me......
