10,000 Hits In 6 Months

Some bragging in order - this blog has just passed the 10,000 hit mark. I reckon that spam boosts this traffic significantly so this map represents a huge grain of salt but a lot of those dots are from real people - the huge dot on Adelaide probably shows I look at my own blog a lot!!

Hate to rain on your parade, but that’s only an average of 50-odd page-views per day. Back when I started up my blog(s), I sometimes refreshed lots of times – mainly when tweaking the template, and refining the appearance in several different browsers.

Why don’t you set up your counter script to only count page views that you haven’t generated? That way you might get an accurate view of just how popular you are 🙂

Matt, I’m under no illusions about the perceived accuracy of the clustrmap – knowing how much spam flows into my blog would knock the 10,000 odd back. If I want more accurate figures, I could go and look at my Google Analytics stats but it’s more a novelty and a way of demonstrating global audience – I’m not so sure that Technorati is anymore accurate in my opinion. However, I never really know who is reading – your comments are a pleasant surprise. BTW, I don’t think I can tweak any counter scripts because this is hosted and beyond my technical prowess.

What I’ve done is co-opt the templating facilities of my blogging system, so the script never gets loaded when I’m logged in and viewing my blog.

But I’m on a ‘different’ WordPress-Mu installation – it doesn’t use PHP, but Smarty Tags.

If you are interested, I blogged about it on my site, which seems to be somewhat slow at the moment, so I can’t find it…I do know it was more about showing Google AdSense ads to non-logged in users, but is equally valid for doing this.

I am always open to learning new things so send me the link to your appropriate post when you have a chance. BTW, did you find my blog via the IT-Teachers subscribe list? Bill Kerr pointed me there but I do feel out of my depth not being secondary and being more a technology user rather than a developer or programmer.
